The show sees a Pulse nightclub-like shooting rock New Orleans’ LGBTQ community.
The first official trailer for the Queer as Folk reboot is here and it looks queer as hell!
Set in New Orleans, the new series sees the LGBTQ community rocked by a horrific tragedy and come together in the aftermath.
The trailer introduces us to all the main characters including Brodie, played by Devin Way, a commitment-phobe who reveals he dropped out of medical school.
Eric Gaise’s character, Marvin, replies: “Hot, smart, and afraid of commitment – every gay man’s type.”
Meanwhile, Fin Argus’ Mingus gets ready to perform on stage for the first time. However, if the trailer is any indication, they serve.
The trailer then cuts to the aftermath of an Orlando Pulse nightclub-like shooting and sees some of the characters re-examine their lives and come together.
New bonds are forged and existing ones tightened.
Brodie tells people: “we’ve got to take control of our lives again”.
Elsewhere, Special‘s Ryan O’Connell asks the age-old question: “What does one wear to a sex party?” O’Connell, who stars as Julian, a pop culture nerd with cerebral palsy, also co-wrote and co-produced the series.
“I want to feel alive again,” Jesse James Keitel’s Ruthie says towards the trailer’s end.
The trailer promises plenty of drama, love, community, and sex.
Queer as Folk will premiere in the UK on streaming service Starzplay on Friday 1 July, just over three weeks after it arrives in the US on Peacock on 9 June.
Viewers will be able to enjoy two episodes each week from the eight-episode series, which was inspired by Russell T Davies’ 1999 series about a group of gay friends living in Manchester and its 2000 US remake, which was set in Pittsburgh and ran for five seasons.
