id we just smack our little heads on the pavement? Because we can’t believe we’re actually saying it, but a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is finally in the works.
According to Puck and Variety, a sequel to the 2006 hit comedy has received an official green light from Disney. Meryl Streep—who portrayed the fabulous ice-queen editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly—along with Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all signed on to reprise their beloved roles for the film. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is also set to return and was reportedly a key factor in securing Streep’s participation.
According to Puck, the sequel will follow Priestly as the Runway editor faces “the dystopian post-aughts realities of the magazine business” and goes head-to-head with former assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), now a “high-powered executive at a Kering- or LVMH-style luxury group whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”
Fans of the original film, of course, were quick to express their excitement—and hesitation—over the news of a sequel. We’d firmly put The Devil Wears Prada on our unofficial list of Absolutely Perfect Movies That Should Never Be Touched Again—but now with the entire original cast on board, maybe the magic can be created just one more time.

When will the The Devil Wears Prada 2 release in theaters?
Per Variety, an official date for the film has been confirmed with the sequel set to hit theaters May 1, 2026.
Is there a trailer for the film?
Yes! The first teaser trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 begins with Miranda Priestly’s studded Valentino stilettos strutting down the Runway magazine hallway. Once she enters the office elevators, she’s joined by her former direct report, Andy Sachs—now a big wig in her own right.
On February 1, 20th Century Studios released the first official full trailer for the film that featured our favorite fashionable frenemies of Miranda, Andy, Nigel, and Emily all together again. You can watch the full clip, below.
Who from the original cast is confirmed to return?
Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt were the first cast members confirmed to reprise their roles for the sequel. In June 2025, 20th Century Studios at last confirmed that Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci will also return. The company shared a video on Instagram announcing that the sequel is now in production, tagging both Hathaway and Tucci.
Fellow returning cast members include Tracie Thomas, who played Lily, Andy’s best friend, and Tibor Feldman, who played Irv Ravitz, the chairman of Runway’s publisher Elias-Clark, per Variety. Adrian Grenier—who played Andy’s boyfriend, Nate—will not reprise his role in the sequel.
Anne Hathaway also shared a first look at herself getting back into character as Andy Sachs on Instagram to mark the film’s first day of production. This time around, her character wore a pinstripe vest and matching trousers with her hair in loose curls. It looks like our favorite girl hasn’t abandoned fashion altogether! She simply captioned the image, “Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2.”

The OG foursome will be joined by newcomer Kenneth Branagh, who will reportedly play Miranda’s husband, per Deadline. Other cast additions include Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Helen J. Shen, Conrad Ricamora, and Caleb Hearon, per Variety. Beloved Bridgerton star Simone Ashley is also set to join the sequel, Deadline reported. The sequel is set to feature some big name cameos as well; per Variety global superstar Lady Gaga will film a scene in between shows of her sold-out Mayhem Ball Tour.
