If the latest edition of Milan Fashion Week is going to stand out for anything, it’s the big show/rave that the Italian brand founded by Renzo Rosso and now creatively directed by Belgian designer Glenn Martens, Diesel, held in front of 7,000 people at Scalo Farini. You know how naughty they are at the brand and how much they love to party.
Despite the heavy rain predicted by the weather forecasters in Milan, no one wanted to miss this event, making it the real highlight of the first day of MFW. Jaden Smith, Charli XCX, Tommy Cash, Aron Piper, and many other famous faces were there, braving the downpour like champions and enjoying the brand and designer’s new designs like children.
Expectations were met, and even exceeded, something quite difficult nowadays, due to the great competition in the sector, but even so, Martens showed that he was not only born to make denim, a task he masters but to go much further, to break all kinds of moulds and mark a before and after in the sector, demonstrating that he is well prepared to cover all types of registers.
The spring/Summer 2024 collection that was presented perfectly reflects Diesel’s spirit, democratic and experimental, adjectives that can be seen in practically all 73 looks, designed to shock, experiment, play, and push the limits. It doesn’t matter if you show more than you should when it comes to wearing the destroyed/worn upper garments or the jeans with muslin, that’s what we’re here for, to be seen, day or night, which is when the show starts.
Do you want to continue getting noticed and have people comment on your look? Go ahead, take that path, Glenn supports you, and invites you to wear boldly the burnt camouflage pieces printed from the inside, in the form of sweatshirts, hoodies, or trousers; the tailored jackets with printed prints from the inside that are sometimes worn with men’s D-Hammer boots moulded with the now iconic D; or with 1DR bags with movie posters on them.
Rounding off this extra-sensory spectacle, the designer used the cinema world and made it one of the main themes of the proposal, as he stamped on some items the posters of different films, some action and others fiction. It seems that the tandem of brand and designer love this art and to prove it, they will be holding a free film festival this weekend. Are you going to miss it? You shouldn’t, because they’re sure to have something special in store.
